Talent strategy must reflect what workers now value

Workplace research suggests that younger professionals place flexibility, work-life balance and learning ahead of office perks. The shift is important for companies that want to recruit and retain skilled employees.

Reported survey figures put better salary first for 37 per cent of Gen Z respondents, flexible hours for 25 per cent and work-life balance for 22 per cent. Only 2 per cent prioritised office perks such as hobby allowances or extra leave.

Retention therefore depends on more than a new office or a social event. Employees need credible career paths, managers who give useful feedback, autonomy and a fair relationship between responsibility and pay.

Talent strategy becomes business strategy when the cost of turnover affects delivery, customer relationships and institutional knowledge.
